For train enthusiasts the charming steam train at Woody Bay Station is set in beautiful countryside and has a tea shop
When its raining and you need to entertain little ones Braunton has Quay Indoor Soft Play and Paint a Pot. A little further afield are The Big Sheep, Air Extreme Trampoline Park, Quince Honey Farm , Barnstaple’s Escape Room. Exeter is a bit of a drive but has the excellent Quay Climbing Centre and is a lovely city to explore
Take a boat to Lundy Island from Ilfracombe or Bideford
Eating
Georgeham has two good pubs The Rock Inn and The King’s Arms
Croyde has The Blue Groove, and New Coast Kitchen, for great breakfasts, lunch and dinners; it also has three pubs The Thatch, The Manor and Billy Budds. The best ice cream in Croyde can be found at the Old Cream Shop. In the summer Stoned has a pop up pizza oven outside New Coast Kitchen. Biffen’s Kitchen at Ocean Pitch Campsite is a must, and there are various other food trucks serving from Down End car park on the way out of Croyde going to Saunton.
Braunton is home to the award winning Squires Fish and Chip Shop which has eat in and take away options. The are a number of good cafes including Wild Thyme, The Riverside, New Coast Canteen.
Woolacombe has a good selection of cafes and for those looking for a special experience Noel Corston offers a delicious seasonal tasting menu. The Porthole on Marine Drive has great coffee and cake and lovely lunches.
Morthoe is home to Miss Fea’s Cafe and is very welcome after a walk along the stunning coastal paths. There is also Town Farmhouse Cafe which serves a lovely cream tea.
Barricane Beach Cafe for Sri Lankan curry when the weather is good is a treat not to be missed. Take a rug and you own drinks.
Ilfracombe has sadly lost Damien Hirst’s restaurant the Quay but his statue Verity is still worth a visit and Thomas Carr has his Michelin star restaurant The Olive Room in Fore Street.
Broomhill Art Hotel serves a great cream after exploring the Sculpture Garden and there are lunches and dinners for those looking for something a bit special
If you are visiting Clovelly or Hartland Point we can highly recommend a meal at The Farmer’s Arms at Woolsery.
